FROM THE ARCHIVE IRMA/JÄCKI

“From the Archive Irma/Jäcki” is a project that I have been working on since 2015. It continues the journalistic, documentary work of German author Hubert Fichte (1935-1986). Jäcki and Irma are the main characters or alter egos of Fichte and his wife Leonore Mau. Notes, photos, video material, drawings from my travels in Brazil and life in São Paulo merge into a fictional continuation of Fichte`s novel “Explosion”. I visited and documented places where Fichte/Mau had been (such as the Casa das Minas in São Luis de Maranhão) or could have been in their life time. Just as Fichte tried to make the grievances of the Brazilian politics during dictatorship visible by enumerating journalistic facts, “From the Archive Irma/Jäcki” critically examines Bolsonaro’s homophobic, misogynist, racist daily politics.
